As of the end of September, 500 cats and dogs have been spayed or neutered, she said.The increase is because of community support for the program, Persad explained.Lisa and Steve Giles donate proceeds from their annual Hillbilly Daylilies Bloomin' Bash festival to the program, she said.Also, proceeds from the South Berkeley County Christmas Parade 5K Run/Walk go to the spay and neuter program, Persad said.The 5K Run/Walk is organized and sponsored by Mark and Amy Peters of the Pizza Oven restaurant in Inwood."Both of them came out of nowhere - we were speechless when they told us what they wanted to do," Persad said. "We are blessed to have people and a community who want to help us and trust us."She also lauded the Inwood Animal Center and the Ark Animal Clinic in Hedgesville for their support of BCHS' spay and neuter program. The two veterinary hospitals offer discounted spay and neuter procedures to BCHS.
