Solar panels to light up arts centre
The Alice Springs Solar City manager says the town's solar program can act as a model for the rest of Australia.Sam Latz says the final part of the 'Solar City Iconic Projects' program will be completed this year, with solar panels being installed on the Araluen Arts Centre roof.He says the installation, covering 10,000 square metres of the roof, will save 211 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions a year."We've got a very well engineered result and very well considered in terms of using the space on the building in the best way and ... speaking about the implications for energy consumption as well, so we think it's going to be a fantastic result and a model for high quality solar installations in Alice Springs and the country," he said.
Mr Latz says the installation will save the arts centre $90,000 a year in energy costs."The Alice Solar City Iconic Projects really have been a set of amazing firsts for Alice Springs and Australia," he said."This project will be a great addition covering pretty much all of the available roof space on the Araluen building there and covering a chunk of their power needs."FPL does not endorse or recommend any individual installers for any of its programs, nor does FPL bear any responsibility for the quality or performance of any products or contractors chosen or hired by the customer.
